On Tuesday 23 March 2021, Egypt’s Suez Canal was blocked after a large container ship ran aground at the southern end of the canal, halting marine traffic in one of the busiest and most important waterways in the world. As of Thursday, the vessel remains wedged across the waterway, and other vessels continue to be blocked as attempts to dislodge the ship are ongoing.
