Security Updates

One year after the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak  was confirmed in the DRC, the Congolese provinces of North Kivu and Ituri continue to see cases being reported on a weekly basis.  Overall, hotspots and associated risks continued to shift with new cases being reported in previously cleared areas.  This continued reporting of cases into new and previously cleared health zones from areas with sustained local transmission is a great hindrance to the control of the overall outbreak and demonstrates that the risk remains high in the region.  The World Health Organization (WHO) has continued to observe a sustained local transition with a large number of cases in the Beni Health Zone.
